I sometimes do presentations about Laughter Yoga in the workplace.
I can use myself as an example of how it has helped bring about change in me.
I have a regular job as a Nurse, coordinating care on the phone with insurance companies, and trying to get them to approve care for patients. (this is part of the absurd American health care system with the high administrative costs). Most of the time we work well together but sometimes it can be very frustrating and aggravating. I used to get aggressive sometimes with the people on the phone lines. But if I would act angry, then they responded in an irritable way also. But the more I have done Laughter Yoga, the more I have learned to relax and not get upset. In fact, after 1 particularly frustrating call, where I was forwarded to different people for 1 1/2 hours and then finally got an even more absurd answer, I burst out laughing!! Earlier, I would have been angry and yelling at them for wasting my time. But instead I started laughing at the absurdity of the whole situation. The person on the other end of the phone started laughing and we just laughed together for a minute. They then thanked me for being nice about it and said thank you for the good medicine!
In general, I find I have become more pleasant and less easily irritated on the job. Other times, I find that the people at the insurance companies will work with me more easily because I am so pleasant and easy to work with. They sometimes will try to expedite things for me because I have treated them so nicely.
I've also found that I don't get as stressed out at work. And if I do have a particularly stressful day, I will try to remember to laugh in the car on the way home. It helps to bring the stress levels down. HOHOHAHAHAA
