For the time ever, a young Indian lady doctor Nupur Kohli conducted a Laughter Yoga session with a over a thousand people at the high profile TEDx event held in Delft, Netherlands. It was a great moment for yoga as academics and politicians joined in the prominent mass event.
According to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. This initiative taken by him found support from many world leaders over 177 countries.
Laughter Yoga (Hasyayoga), like traditional yoga seeks to provide physical, mental and spiritual happiness. It is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter and is based on the belief that even if you fake laughter; it provides the same physiological and psychological benefits as spontaneous laughter.
With her Laughter Yoga session at the TEDx occasion, Dr. Kohli brought yoga globally to young and old, to academicians, politicians and other leaders, celebrating the vastness and strength of this precious Indian heritage.
