Since retiring from a general trading company, I have been teaching business English for international trade both at university and other educational organizations, exploiting my experience in international trade. In addition, I have also been involved in Business English tests which are carried out by the Japanese Society for Testing Proficiency in International Trade Procedures.
Since graduating from university I have spent more than 50 years working in international trade and related business areas. I dont think it will be possible to continue the same work up to the age of 100. So I was looking for a new job which I will be able to manage for another 20 years.
About a year ago, I read a book called Laughter Yoga to Prevent Dementia by Yoshiko Takada, the executive of the Japanese Laughter Yoga Association and I attended a session of laughter yoga at the Suidobashi club in Tokyo. I found I could laugh heartily by myself when I was practicing the exercises with other participants. Because I felt it refreshing to have a good laugh, I was into laughter yoga.
Once I realized the benefits of laughter yoga, I became so involved in it that I took part in 4 sessions in a month. The sessions take place once a month at the Mihama Laughter Yoga Club - about 5-minute walk from my home and also twice a month at the Funabashi Laughter Yoga Club, and at the Suidobashi club. As a result, I opened my own Chiba Laughter Yoga Club in February, at the request of residents in the community, and have been running a session there once a month. The charge is a mere 30 yen per person for room rental. At present we have about 15 taking part.
In addition to my involvement in the exercises, I have also been studying "Laugh For No Reason and The Inner Spirit Of Laughter by Dr. Madan Kataria, the creator of laughter yoga in Japanese (in translation) and English (in the original). I learned that Ms. Takadas book introduced Tadao Okubo, already aged 80. He had been appointed a Laughter Yoga Teacher by Dr. Madan Kataria. He has been actively spreading laughter yoga among Japanese people.
I have decided that laughter yoga will be my lifetime job which I can do beyond the age of 80 and can continue up to 100. I immediately joined Mr. Okubos Funabashi Laughter Yoga Club. His policy is that any participant who has taken more than 10 sessions in addition to a two-day Leader Course will be appointed Laughter Yoga Leader. At last, I was appointed Leader in April.
Following my appointment as leader, I was made a Laughter Yoga Teacher by Dr. Madan Kataria at the Teacher Training Course held by Japanese Laughter Yoga Association in September.
