Parkinson’s is characterized, in part, by the death of dopaminergic neurons. There is scientific evidence that laughing increases dopamine and other endorphin levels which aide in immune functions. The American Medical Journal and the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor state that laughing for 10 minutes can drop blood pressure between 10-20 mmHg. Those with Parkinson’s can also experience issues with regulating breath and voice.
Laughter Yoga uses yogic breathing exercises that can strengthen the diaphragm and increase the ability to control the flow of one’s breath.
