Laughter Yoga at Western Kentucky University.

On September 24, 2010, Pawan Y., Health Education Intern from Western Kentucky University, emailed Dr. Kataria to inquire about how to start a laughter club at the University.

Here is an explanation from Pawan about how Western Kentucky University found out about Laughter Yoga:

"My wife Preethi (who is from Hyderabad,India) once had shared her view about the benefits of laughter yoga and how effective it could be in relieving stress and depression. My supervisor, Kathryn, had asked us during one of our meetings to come up with an innovative idea or a method to relieve stress which we could incorporate in our Campus Wellness program. During one of our meetings I shared this laughter yoga experience of my wife's Grandfather and how it helped him to relieve his stress. I also told them that most of his friends were troubled by careless attitudes of their children and care takers.They got much relief after attending these laughter yoga sessions conducted at a park in Hyderabad, India. My supervisor really liked this idea of conducting a laughter yoga session. That's how we decided to conduct the laughter yoga session at our campus in Western Kentucky University."

Dr. Kataria received Pawan's email & sent the request along to me as he knew that I was a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher who resided in Kentucky.

On November 3, 2010, I presented a Laughter Yoga Demonstration for the Staff and the Students at Western Kentucky University.
Here is a Summary of the Day's Event:

The whole event was titled "Knock -Out Stress Workshop".It was a part of the Stress Out Stress (S.O.S) programming series which is conducted by the "Well U" team at the Western Kentucky University. WellU is an online student wellness program designed to promote health and wellness related programs and services available at WKU.
Our goal with the "Knock Out Stress" program is to provide opportunities for attendees to relieve stress and to learn valuable techniques to assist them in the future.We included ways in which one could relieve stress and create effective schedules.

The Knock-Out Stress Sessions included:
4:00-4:30 Laugh out Stress (Laughter Yoga)
4:40-5:10 Shoot Down Stress (Stress Busters)
5:20-5:50 Move To Relax (Progressive Muscle Relaxation & Breathing)
6:00-6:30 DRAWing Out Stress (Relieving Stress through Art)
6:40-7:00 Take Time To Make Time (Time Management & Scheduling)
The event was on Wednesday, November 3rd from 4:00-7:10pm at the Preston Center,Western Kentucky University.
