The Integrative Medicine Program is pleased to announce that beginning on Tuesday, November 17, at 8:00 am for four (4) consecutive Tuesday mornings – 11/17 – 12/1 – 12/15 & 12/29 - we will be offering Laughter Yoga at The Kellogg Cancer Center at Highland Park Hospital to anyone who is interested – everyone is welcome. This “free” pilot offer will be effective for a limited time only so please be sure to ask about Laughter Yoga when you schedule your Kellogg appointment.
Laughter is a simple, fun thing anyone can do to make a difficult situation easier to bear. Evidence is mounting that laughter is good for us!
- Laughter reduces stress hormones. (American Journal of the Medical Sciences)
- Laughter increases pain tolerance. (New England Journal of Medicine)
- Laughter increases the body’s T-Cell counts. (Journal of Clinical Research)
- Laughter may reduce stress and improve NK cell activity. (Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
In a Laughter Yoga class we will laugh, stretch, breath, clap, and then - laugh some more. Children laugh as they play, just from the pure joy of it. This may seem impossible to an adult burdened with serious issues, but Laughter Yoga is a bridge that can often take you back.
These 45-minute sessions will be facilitated by John Chamness, LMT, NCTMB, who is a certified Laughter Leader with the World Laughter Tour, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and a Bodyworker with NorthShore University HealthSystem Integrative Medicine Program.
"Laughter Yoga combines laughter with yoga breathing exercises. It is a perfect way to laugh and get exercise at the same time. It approaches laughter as a body exercise so it's easy to laugh even if you're depressed or in a bad mood. I've tried it, and it works."
