Originally from Takamatsu, Japan, Michi spent 6 years (2001-2007) in Halifax, Canada, which she calls her second home.
She is a certified Yoga instructor (ERYT 500-hour level with Yoga Alliance) and an R-1 certified chiropractor.
Michi first encountered Laughter Yoga in 2011 – 5 months after the earthquake and tsunami destroyed a large part of northeastern Japan. In times of such devastation and confusion, and feeling sad and depressed herself, Michi immediately and instinctively knew that Laughter Yoga can potentially heal a lot of people and their lives. She has been a believer in, and an advocate of Laughter Yoga ever since.
Michi is also the owner and Yoga instructor of MM Studio in Takamatsu. Some of her students call the place “a secret hideaway” because it doesn't have signs and it’s never been advertised. Those who are serious about healing and taking care of themselves, however, somehow always find her and her studio. She named it MM after the Japanese word “em”, which means laughter, hoping that everyone who comes feels joyful when they leave. She didn’t even know about Laughter Yoga when she picked the name, nor did she dream that it will someday become a home for her Laugher Club as well as certified LY leader trainings.
