On the first Sunday of the month at 11am, various club leaders from Laughter Clubs Victoria take turns in facilitating laughter for the Yoga Federation Square Laughter Club.
Next month will be a huge one of course, being World Laughter Day and for the first time we will be taking over the main stage, bringing much laughter and joy to the people and visitors of Melbourne.
This month I was delighted to take a turn leading the laughter. I caught the train in with my husband John and at first thought that not many people were going to join in. However we attracted many onlookers and the crowd was so receptive, stopping to share the joy and play fun that we were involved in. Soon there were sixteen people and one was a quite old gentleman who simply threw himself into the activity; he was such a great example of living each moment enthusiastically. I reckon that he inspired some of the younger ones to give it a go and act silly.
Maria from Coburg did her leader training the week before and is planning to start a club in her area. She asked to lead some laughs and breathing for practice and did a jolly good job too! Thanks Maria. My husband John has been a wonderful support for me over the last six years that I have been running the Ferntree Gully Laughter Club. It takes a lot of persistence to continue this commitment, hail, rain and shine and I feel blessed to be involved in the laughter movement. Especially too, that he has been coming along to the laughter club lately.
I couldn’t help myself, I asked John to lead a couple of his favourite laughs and he did with great gusto. He led The archer and the Milkshake laugh. Today was a surprise, as he came along with me to meet a photographer regarding a local community newspaper article. I have found these type of newspapers to be tremendously supportive when it comes to World Laughter Day, each year three local newspapers do a story and include a photo. And today was a first for me, John agreed to be in the photo, which I feel will be a fantastic promotion for the Ferntree Gully Laughter Club.
Also at Federation Square was a journalist student who interviewed us and took many photos for her assignment. Luckily the rain held off and our bright attitude and fantastic laughter session was very uplifting. We finished off having a cup of tea with Rosemary, who has been attending the first Sunday of the month regularly for a very long time.
Here are some photos taken on the day. Enjoy.
